Nice news from Belinda Bencic. As the Olympic tennis champion confirmed to 20 Minutes on the sidelines of the Sports Awards, she has become engaged to her boyfriend and fitness trainer Martin Hromkovic (41). “Yes, it’s true,” says the Eastern Swiss woman about the engagement rumors.
The 26-year-old herself started the rumor mill when she posted a black and white photo with Hromkovic on Instagram. In this one, Bencic had a striking ring on her hand, which already indicated an engagement. The two garnished the mysterious photo with heart emojis.
Wedding date still unknown
It is not yet known when the tennis dream couple’s big wedding celebration will take place. “We don’t know that ourselves yet,” explains Bencic, who announced her pregnancy at the beginning of November. «We are expecting our little miracle soon. We can’t wait to meet you,” wrote the world number 17 on Instagram. She and Hromkovic also showed a pair of children’s shoes.
While Bencic has been one of the world’s top tennis players for years, Hromkovic previously worked as a semi-professional footballer in Slovakia and in the lower leagues of Austria. In 2018 he gave up his career and his job at the Empire Tennis Academy in Trnava. This is in favor of his commitment to the Swiss tennis player as a fitness coach.
Bencic is looking forward to being a mother
In the podcast “Let’s not talk about Tennis” from Swiss Tennis, Bencic recently spoke about things that concern her off the court and about her pregnancy. The tennis player, known as a perfectionist, is convinced that the role of mother will be good for her. «I will learn a lot. “Learning to let things pass and to set priorities,” said Bencic, who played her last game in mid-September at the WTA tournament in San Diego.
After her stay in California, the 26-year-old was actually supposed to compete in Guadalajara, but officially gave up before the start of the tournament due to food poisoning. As the woman from Eastern Switzerland admitted in the podcast, she struggled with the effects of her pregnancy on the journey back from Central America.
