Riccione Sports Clubs Face Challenges After Wind Damage

Three sports clubs without a roof. The strong wind on the night between Friday and Saturday tore off the roof of the tensile structure next to the Italo Nicoletti stadium. The structure was dated and could not withstand the gusts that hit the coast. The damage is extensive, they admit at the town hall, so much so that the structure is considered unrepairable. With winter upon us and the low temperatures already arriving, a big problem arises for figure skating, free style section. baseball and athletics who used this space for courses with children. Yesterday afternoon there was a first meeting in the town hall between the Sports councilor, Simone Imola, and the offices to take stock and look for an alternative. “We are evaluating a couple of solutions and one of them should allow us to give a response quickly to clubs and families. We need to carry out some checks and inspections above all to understand if what we have evaluated can meet the needs of skating. The intention is to give an answer as early as next week.” Meanwhile, Junior Rimini and New Rimini, baseball clubs led by Alessia Vannucci and Enrico Bonemei, have made themselves available to provide a roof for Baseball Riccione.

Returning to Riccione, the relocation of companies is only part of the problem. The roof of the gym cannot be repaired, therefore “the hypothesis of rebuilding it must be taken into consideration. We have to build a new structure with a related project – continues the councilor –. We intended to build a new one and this helps us because we had already started path”. The road is torn, but resources are needed. Already yesterday, calls began in the Region to understand how to proceed to intercept funds and possible tenders. “The structure ruined by bad weather had already had serious consequences last May during the flood. Now our objective is to seek financing to be able to build a new one, and reimbursements for the damage caused by the flood are being evaluated. In this case we could count on approximately 800 thousand euros in contributions”. They won’t be enough to build a new gym. “The project we have in mind and for which we had already moved has a cost of around 1.4 million euros. The difference would be invested by the Municipality”. To know the construction times of a new structure, we will have to wait for financing. “We hope we can draw on the funds as soon as possible. As far as we are concerned, we are in a position to proceed quickly with the project.”
