Bischofshofen Women Clinch Victory in Hotly Contested Final

Hotly contested final

The tournament started according to plan for the Bischofshofen women. In the semi-final they defeated ASKÖ Reichraming from Upper Austria with a score of 8:4. Then suddenly the lights went out. Not only the hall, but also large parts of it were without power due to the ongoing snowfall. After a good hour, the long-awaited final duel against UJZ Mühlviertel, which easily won 8:3 against Leibnitz in the semi-final, could begin.

On Sanjindo’s side, Elena Dengg (-70) and Lisa Dengg (-48) as well as Maria Höllwart (team captain, +70) each won two fights.

Because Katharina Mikota from UJZ Mühlviertel only won her first duel against Larissa Sickinger (-52) with Waza-ari, but all other fights ended prematurely through Ippon, the title pendulum ultimately swung in favor of Sanjindo Bischofshofen.

“Excitement, spectacle, drama and emotions – this duel had everything a Final Four final must have. Even if it was closer in the end than the preliminary round would have suggested: Bischofshofen deservedly been crowned champions,” concluded Markus Moser, sports director of the Austrian Judo Association (ÖJV).
