Omission of Provincial Deliberation Delays Groundbreaking Ceremony for Pyeongtaek Leisure Sports Park

Omission of provincial deliberation in the process of selecting a supervisory company
“Re-announcement early next year…There will be no disruption to the business schedule.”

Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi-do, announced on the 7th that the groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Cheongbuk District Leisure Sports Park’ construction project, which was scheduled to be held on the 9th, was postponed due to a review issue with the construction project management service (supervision).

The city explained that the postponement of the groundbreaking ceremony was due to the recent cancellation of the announcement of the selection of a supervisory company for the project.

According to the city, last month the city issued a bid notice to select a supervisory company for the Cheongbuk District Leisure Sports Park, but recently canceled it. In order to supervise large-scale park construction projects, Gyeonggi Province must undergo deliberation, but it was belatedly confirmed that this procedure was omitted.

A city official said, “During the construction management service process for the large-scale park project, we canceled the bid after realizing that the new Gyeonggi Province review process for 2021 was omitted,” and added, “We plan to re-announce after review as early as next year.” The official added, “Although the groundbreaking ceremony has been postponed, there will be no disruption to the overall project schedule as construction will be suspended during the winter season.”

The city will also proceed with the selection of a construction company as scheduled, separate from supervision. When the Public Procurement Service announces the results of the successful bid for the construction company on this day, it plans to proceed with a contract with the construction company after going through a qualification screening process for about two weeks.

Cheongbuk District Leisure Park is a large-scale park development project being promoted on a 439,551㎡ site in the area of 1341 Okgil-ri, Cheongbuk-eup, Pyeongtaek-si. The park will include sports facilities such as a BMX course, park golf course, and badminton court, as well as various landscaping facilities and convenience facilities such as a parking lot and plaza.

Initially, this site was attempted to attract private businesses to create a golf course, but failed and has been neglected for a long time. Afterwards, after reviewing the feasibility of the project, the city decided to build a large-scale leisure sports park instead of a golf course and has been pursuing the project since 2021.
