Norwegian Daredevil Sets Record with 40 Meter Jump into Icy Sea

On December 3, this 35-year-old former soldier of the Norwegian army published the new achievement on social networks, jumping into the icy water of the Norwegian Sea from a rock platform at a height of 40.5 meters.

The current women’s record was set by Ken’s compatriot Asbjerga Nesje – jumping from a dizzying height of 30.5 meters.

A whole team met the record holder in the water to make sure that everything was okay with him and to pull him out of the water. Needless to say, this trick should not be attempted by anyone without proper preparation and alone.

Despite the record, he is not a world champion in this sport (which in Norwegian is called of death), because last year he did not participate in the world championship held in Norway since 2008 (Death World Championship), he hasn’t actually won any championships. On the other hand, Nesje has triumphed in the last three championships. In this championship, held in Oslo every August, jumps take place from a platform at a height of 10 to 15 meters.

In addition to diving into icy water, Storness has also jumped into snow from great heights and been catapulted into water while holding a battle axe.

Growing up in the Norwegian polar city of Harstad, Stornes is not only passionate about extreme stunts, he served in the army, but also participated in mixed martial arts competitions. “I am a person who needs to do something,” he told Norwegian broadcaster NRK. “I like to push myself and do things that can be a little risky.”

“At least it makes me feel alive,” he says.
