Liverpool dominate Burnley and take provisional lead of the Premier League

Liverpool still have difficulty realizing their chances in the Premier League but continue to move forward. After the draw conceded to Arsenal (1-1), the Reds resumed their march forward this Tuesday against a timid Burnley. Darwin Nunez put his team on the right path from the start of the match, with a nice strike at the edge of the box (1-0, 6th). The Uruguayan removed a great thorn in the side of his partners since the rest of the match was for a long time a succession of missed opportunities.

We had to wait until the very end of the match and a goal from Diogo Jota (2-0, 90th) to definitively confirm the success of Jürgen Klopp’s men. And chase away this awkwardness embodied by a new amount touched by Mohamed Salah (34th) and two goals refused. If the first, from Cody Gakpo, is quite logical (28th), the VAR was on the other hand overzealous in depriving Harvey Elliott of his second goal of the season (54th). The video assistance judged that Salah, largely offside, was making a play on the midfield shot, even though James Trafford had not moved on his line.

A huge James Trafford

It was one of the rare times the Burnley goalkeeper was beaten. The goalkeeper, a U21 international with England (21 years old, 11 caps), was enormous in front of the Reds attackers. After a few easy saves to get his legs going, he gained momentum to disgust Salah and others with 8 saves in the end.

Not enough for Vincent Kompany’s team, more enterprising after the hour mark but still booed by their own stadium for their lack of offensive drive. Booed also for her 8th defeat in 9 matches in her lair, which leaves her in a dangerous 19th place. On the other side of the rankings, everything is going well for Liverpool, who will now scrutinize the results of their pursuers, Arsenal and the surprising Aston Villa of Unai Emery.
