The girls’ team of the mini-basketball team “Kjr. Basketball Club” won the Hokkaido Autumn Tournament (Hokkaido Championship) Challenge Cup Final held at the Isehara General Gymnasium on November 23rd, and the tournament will be held from January 6th (Saturday). They have decided to advance to the 44th Kanagawa Prefecture Mini Basketball Finals (Prefectural Tournament) of the National Mutual Aid Cup.

Twenty-five teams from Hadano, Isehara, Atsugi, Sagamihara, Yamato, Ayase, and Ebina will participate in the Challenge Cup, which also serves as a preliminary round for the prefectural tournament. The team, which had no sixth graders last year, spent a year building the team, and this year they entered the tournament with a strong roster of eight sixth graders. On the other hand, since most of the players are smaller than the other teams, they focused on running to build up their physical strength in practice, and focused on developing games that use their legs.

“For both boys and girls, advancing to the finals of the prefectural tournament was the best, and we have never won a championship. This time we want to win the championship and take us to the national tournament, which is our long-cherished desire,” said coach Ikuka Kubodera. Captain Niko Hosono (6th grade at Suehiro Elementary School), who experienced the prefectural tournament finals when he was in second grade, also said, “We will carry on the wishes of our seniors and win the prefectural tournament, and we will enter a new era. “I want to create a national tournament and represent Kanagawa Prefecture in the national tournament,” he said with enthusiasm.
