Indonesian U20 National Team Projected to Appear in the 2025 U20 World Cup, Undergo TC in Qatar

KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian U20 national team is projected to be able to participate in the 2025 U20 World Cup in Chile.

It is known that currently, Garuda Muda is carrying out training center (TC) or phase one training camp at Aspire Academy, Qatar.

The players brought to Qatar have a target of being able to compete in several tournaments in 2024 and being able to participate in the 2025 U20 World Cup.

During this training camp, the tactician, Indra Sjafri, said he would monitor to take profiles of the players he brought.

The material for the players brought to the TC in Qatar this time consisted of the U17 National Team for the 2023 World Cup, League 1, League 2, League 3, EPA, Suratin and Asprov.

Indra Sjafri has hopes for the players who take part, namely that they will be able to maximize the opportunities given.

“We hope that the players will use the opportunity they have to become part of the U20 National Team. The formation of this team will select very selective players in stages,” wrote Indra on his official Instagram account, Tuesday (26/12/2023).

“We are always evaluating and there will be a promotion and relegation system for players,” he continued.

The Indonesian U20 national team training camp will not stop in Qatar.

This 60 year old coach announced that there is a second TC agenda which will be held in Jakarta.

“Later, after the TC is here, we will continue with the second stage of the TC in Jakarta. We will call new players whose list we have already inventory,” wrote Indra.

Not only domestic players, children with Indonesian ancestry who play abroad have the opportunity to be called up.

“We will also provide opportunities for children abroad in stages,” he said.

Indra also said that there is the possibility of naturalization, if players with Indonesian ancestry who play abroad have something special.

“Finally, if there is a player who is truly special, whose quality is good, he is of (Indonesian) descent with a love for his ancestral homeland and wants to play for Indonesia but does not yet have Indonesian citizenship, we will also apply to PSSI to be part of the National Team Indonesia,” he concluded.

Finally, the coach of the Red and White squad has the hope that Garuda Muda can appear in the 2025 U20 World Cup.

For information, young Garuda is projected to compete in several tournaments in 2024.

Some of the tournaments that will be participated in are the 2024 AFF U19 Cup, 2025 U20 Asian Cup Qualification.

To enter the 2025 U20 World Cup, Indonesia must at least appear in the 2025 U20 Asian Cup and finish in the top four or occupy the semifinals.
