How U17 world champion Konstantin Heide became a hero

Konstantin Heide unexpectedly takes on a leading role in the German U-17 juniors’ World Cup triumph. The goalkeeper is one of the “sons-in-law” in the squad. He still has self-confidence – and a clear plan.

If a goalkeeper only played two games in a tournament and is still on everyone’s lips afterwards, something special must have happened or he has achieved something extraordinary. Konstantin Heide started the U-17 Junior Football World Cup as number two – and by the end had taken on an absolute leading role.

“Konsti again, unbelievable,” said captain Noah Darvich after the celebrated final win against France. The young goalkeeper from the Unterhaching game association had saved twice in the penalty shoot-out in both the final and the semi-final against Argentina, thus laying the foundation for the first World Cup triumph for a German U-17 team.
