Galdense Álvaro González Vizuete: Champion of Spain in Speedcubing

Galdense Álvaro González Vizuete was recently proclaimed champion of Spain in the Speedcubing modality in a competition held in Madrid representing the Canary Islands. He is a boy from Galden, a 2nd year student at the IES Saulo Torón with a view to continuing his studies at the University of Computer Engineering. He considers Speedcubing a sport that consists of solving it as quickly as possible, he has practiced judo, chess, soccer, basketball and cycling.

At the age of ten his parents gave him a cube, to see if he liked it, at first he didn’t like it very much, he put it aside, but then he tried to solve it, but after a few months he became quite interested in looking for a strategy and he already became fond of this sport. To master it well, it is done with different techniques and a lot of practice, it does not take much time, half an hour a day is enough. He has been in this sport for 5 years, starting in 2018. He needs patience and mobility in the hands, but to be the best the mind is very important, although it must be accompanied by skill and ability.

He began participating in the islands, but later he went a lot to the peninsula where there are a greater number of participants and a higher level. Participating in a championship takes two days and sometimes three, the flight is not very expensive, but the stay, hotel, food and transportation are.

He remembers with great emotion this first national title recently obtained against many good players, a little nervous, although it was worth it for the title of one-handed champion being the first Spaniard. He relaxes by playing music and breathing with his eyes closed to concentrate, to avoid the initial nerves in any competition. He stood on the podium with the three best, placing himself in the center as champion, carrying the Canarian flag with pride of his origin and representation. When he won the title he did so with a time of 12 seconds.

He has not received any financial aid from institutions, his parents have been his guarantors to be able to pay for his trips and stay, perhaps now with the degree he has achieved, new avenues of aid will open up for him. She has a room decorated with different cubes, diplomas and awards she has earned. In this sport that is competition, you make good friends, there is competitiveness, but not rivalry.

In the video offered with the full interview, a live demonstration is shown with two hands and one hand where he demonstrates his ability, dexterity and concentration to solve this game in the best possible time. Before starting the game there is an inspection time and then executing it. Congratulations on this title.
