Exciting Results from World Tour Finals 2023: Semifinals Set

The third day of the season ended just now World Tour Finals 2023 del circuito BWF. A Hangzhou, in Cina, the matches valid for the third and final day of the group stage were played today the semi-finals of all the tables have therefore been outlined (men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles). Let’s go and see everything that happened.

In the men’s singles Danish Viktor Axelsen did not disappoint, beating Indonesian Anthony Ginting 16-21, 21-7, 21-13 and qualifying for the semi-final thanks to second place in group A, behind Chinese Yu Qi Shi, he also had two victories on the scoresheet like Axelsen (today Shi defeated the Japanese Kodai Naraoka 18-21, 23-21, 21-13) and Ginting, with the latter however finishing third and was therefore eliminated. In the other group, the Danish Anders Antonsen, first in the group after today’s success 21-16, 21-11 against the Thai Kunlavut Vitidsarn, and the Indonesian Jonatan Christie, second despite today’s defeat against the Chinese Shi Feng Li 21-13, 21-18.

In the women’s singles the Korean Se Young An and the representative of Taipei Tzu Ying Tai finished in first and second place respectively in group A, and therefore passed the round (both with 2 victories after An’s success today in the direct clash at the top). In the other group, the Spanish Carolina Marin (today 25-23, 24-22 against the Chinese Yu Dei Chen), first with 3 victories out of 3, and Chen, second with two successes, gained the passes to the semi-finals.

In men’s doubles the Chinese Liu/Ou (today 21-12, 21-17 against Hoki/Kobayashi) and Liang/Wang (today 18-21, 21-14, 21-12 against Chia/) earned their tickets to the semi-finals via group A Soh), thanks respectively to first (three wins out of three) and second place (2/3). In group B, the Indonesians Alfian/Ardianto qualified for the direct elimination phase with first place, despite today’s defeat against the Koreans Kang/Seo, who with the victory in the last match of the group gained the pass for the penultimate act with second place.

In the women’s doubles the Chinese Chen/Jia won by forfeit against Matsumoto/Nagahara (who withdrew yesterday) and finished group A in first place with full points, thus obtaining the pass to the semi-finals. The Chinese Liu/Tan also qualified with them (today 21-13, 21-8 against Rahayu/Ramadhanti), second in group A, the Koreans Baek/Lee (21-18, 9-21, 21-16 against Matsuyama/Shida), first in group B, and the Japanese Matsuyama/Shida, second in group B.

In the end, in mixed doubles the Chinese Feng/Huang beat Watanabe/Higashino 21-16, 19-21, 21-17 and reached the semifinals by virtue of first place in group A (3 wins out of 3). The Japanese Watanabe/Higashino then finished second in the same group, and therefore obtained a pass to the semi-finals, with a victory, while in the other group the Chinese Zheng/Huang and the Koreans won tickets for the penultimate act of the tournament. Seo/Chae (the latter lost today against Zheng/Huang 21-15, 25-23).
