Exciting Finalists Revealed for the 40th Desjardins Sport-Hommage Gala

The 40th Desjardins Sport-Hommage Gala is just around the corner, so it was this Thursday that the organizing committee revealed the finalists for the different categories. Remember that this year the evening will take place at the Delta Hotel in Trois-Rivières on January 20.

Let’s go first with the International Athletes par excellence. For the ladies, Florence Brunelle (who we saw at the Olympic Games in speed skating), Mary-Sophie Harvey (Swimming – Team Canada) and Tammara Thibeault (Boxing – Team Canada) are the three finalists, while the names of Mathias Guillemette (cycling), Mathieu St-Pierre (para-canoe) and Laurent Lavigne (canoe-kayak) were selected for the men.

At the Canadian level, in individual sport, Charlie Thibault (judo), Marie-Frédérique Poulin (athletics) and Thessalie Bruneau (BMX) stood out. Among the men, there are four athletes this year, namely Alexis Bélanger (speed skating), Émile Toupin (athletics), Olivier Gauthier (diving) and Xavier Brouillette (judo). As for the Athletes par excellence in team sports, at the Canadian level, Alizée Gélinas (baseball) will fight with Anne Perreault (soccer) among the ladies, while Esteban Dessureault (baseball) and Simon Lafrance (hockey) are nominated for men.

On the Quebec scene, Félix Lacerte (hockey), Vincenzo Iskander (football) and Shawn Carrier (hockey) are the three finalists in the Team Sports category. On the women’s side, Alexane Baribeau (volleyball), Juliette Sigmen (volleyball) and Léa Gosselin (soccer) were selected. On an individual level, Alexis Dubuc-Bilodeau (speed skating), Étienne Courchesne (swimming) and William Samson (speed skating) are nominated, while Ariane Joly (speed skating), Jasmine Schaerli (trampoline) and Léonie Gervais (gymnastics) imitate them among the ladies.

Among the veterans, Alain Tousignant (taekwondo), Patrice Doucet (athletics) and Pierre Baillargeon (powerlifting) are the 2023 finalists, while Annie Boulanger (figure skating), Geneviève Baillargeon (soccer) and Guillaume Bénard (multi-sport) have been selected as Outstanding Athletes with a Disability. In the volunteer category (or team of volunteers), Francis Hénault (baseball) and Michel Leclair (softball) are nominated with the duo composed of Marie-Elaine Normand and Patricia Lepage (volleyball).

Among coaches, there are two categories. Marc-Antoine Senneville (athletics), Marc-Étienne Hubert-Blackburn (hockey) and Mathieu Pelletier (canoe-kayak) are the finalists for the Outstanding Coach of the Year category, while Éric Bédard (speed skating ), Francis Rousseau (football) and Jacob Landry (judo) will compete in the Development Coach par excellence category.

As for the officials, Françoise Guindon (artistic swimming) is a finalist with Marie-Pier Houle (basketball) and Pierre-Alexandre Brière (wheelchair rugby). The next generation of officials (under 5s) will also be in the spotlight while Alexandra Proulx (soccer), Louis-Simon Pruneau (hockey), Marianne Boisvert (artistic swimming) and Xavier Douville (baseball) were retained.

As for the teams, the Vert et Or football of Séminaire Saint-Joseph is a finalist in the Minor Team of the Year category, with the Estacades Hockey M15 AAA Élite of Trois-Rivières and the Duo 17 years and under of Mauricie (winter 2023 – artistic swimming). In the Outstanding Team of the Year category, the hockey Patriotes from the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières will battle with the cross-country Diablos from the Cégep de Trois-Rivières and the K4 Open canoe-kayak team ( 500m), from the Trois-Rivières Canoe-Kayak Club, made up of Mathieu Gilbert, Vincent Jourdenais, Nathan Koné and Jérémy Lantz.
