Euro 2024: what is the German mascot called?

The deadline is approaching. While the draw for Euro 2024 (June 14 – July 14) takes place this Saturday in Germany, spectators were also able to discover the competition’s mascot. The animal is called Albärt and represents a bear.

This is a tribute to the image of “the faithful German teddy bear”, indicates UEFA. It was popularized across the Rhine at the beginning of the 20th century. Albärt won the vote among UEFA internet users and European schoolchildren with 32% of the vote. He was ahead of Bärnardo (29%), Bärnheart (22%) and Herzi von Bär (17%).

The mascot succeeds Skillzy, the face of Euro 2021 who represented a character inspired by freestyle culture. A choice that had received a lot of negative criticism due to its childish appearance.

The bear was presented on June 20 on the sidelines of a friendly between Germany and Colombia (0-2). He then traveled to several primary schools in Gelsenkirchen to encourage children to play sports.
