Eintracht Frankfurt Looking to Reinforce Defense with Transfer for Former Schalke Star Thilo Kehrer

Reinforces an ex- Schalker die Concord?

Frankfurters’ Christmas days will probably be anything but quiet. After the cup exit in Saarbrücken (0-2) and four competitive defeats in a row, reinforcements are to come in the winter – including in defense.

SPORT BILD knows: Eintracht is working on a transfer for Thilo Kehrer (27)!

The German central defender is currently under contract with England club West Ham United. And that until 2026, with the club’s option for two more years. In addition, Kehrer (market value is 13 million euros according to transfermarkt.de) is probably making a lot of money from the “Hammers”.

A loan deal would therefore be particularly obvious for Frankfurt.

One thing is clear: Due to his flexibility, the national player (27 international matches) would fit well into Dino Toppmöller’s (43) team, who is known for often changing his playing system.

In addition, Kehrer knows the Bundesliga very well. The 27-year-old comes from Schalke’s youth team and played for the professionals from 2015 to 2018. To then move to Paris Saint-Germain for 37 million euros.

Kehrer stayed there for four years, during which he was at least regularly used. In the summer of 2022 he went to the Premier League. West Ham paid 12 million euros to PSG.

The professional quickly became a regular for the English team, but a slump followed. The defender, who won the Conference League with West Ham, is now no longer considered a seed.

This season, Kehrer has made nine competitive appearances and was only in the starting line-up three times. A change would definitely make sense for Kehrer!

As early as the summer of 2021, the then new Frankfurt sports director Markus Krösche (43) had Kehrer on his wish list – at that time he was still playing in Paris.

Maybe the transfer will work now…

What could be encouraging: Robin Koch (27) has already shown how returning from England can work. The (currently injured) central defender and ex-Freiburger is on loan from Leeds United until the end of the season, has integrated well into the team and would have returned to the national team if not for injury.
