The winners of the men’s event, Brahim El Asri, and the women’s event, Sara Reimondo, of the XXXIX Memorial Itziar López de Uralde, a 9 kilometer race that ran through the streets of Getxo, never feared for their victory. Asri, from the Getxo Athletics Club, with a time of 28 minutes and 47 minutes, was the first to cross the finish line, ahead of Gontzal Bilbao, from Santurtzi (29:50), and Jon García, also from Getxo (30 :32). The champion entered the Fadura track alone and achieved a very comfortable victory, thanks to “the training I have carried out with his coach Jon Ander Aranguren, who has prepared me very well.”

Reimondo (32:11), a Galician athlete with several wins in popular races, has also dominated the women’s category. Second was Nerea Iturriaga, from Getxo and winner last year, (34:41) and in third position was Inma Pereiro (36:03), from Saltoki Trikideak, with a good record in long distance competitions. Reimondo has arrived and kissed the saint, since “I had never run in Getxo, but my boyfriend, who is from here, encouraged me, although I didn’t know if I could win because I didn’t know the level of other runners.”

The sports meeting, organized by the Getxo Athletic Club and sponsored by EL CORREO, had participants of all ages, from primary school children to true veterans. Half an hour before the main race, the testimonial race, 2 kilometers in the surroundings of Fadura, started, in which families, groups of friends and fans took part. The cold surprised most before the start at half past ten in the morning.

Up to 1,500 runners have gathered at the testimonial and competitive event, in a celebration for sport that has included raffles, trophies in various categories and medals for many of the child participants.
