Celebrating the Participation of Argentine Olympic Athletes: Honoring Past Competitors and Inspiring Future Generations

Within the framework of the 41st edition of the Drawing and Literature Contest, the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) and the Association of Argentine Olympic Athletes commemorated the participation of athletes who competed in past editions of the Summer Olympic Games.

The honored athletes received the certificate issued by the International Olympic Committee and the World Association of Olympic Athletes and the “OLY” badge, which identifies all the Olympic athletes in the world and recognizes them for all their years of hard work, dedication and commitment to spread Olympic values.

Carolina Marianipresident of the Association of Argentine Olympic Athletes and Olympic judo athlete in Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000, stated: “Currently we are 1,898 Argentine Olympic Athletes and more than 100,000 Olympians around the world, grouped in 96 National Associations. Our mission is to be connected and work for the benefit of all Olympians at different stages of their lives, but mainly after their competitive retirement, and thus be able to share the Olympic spirit with the entire society and inspire people to contribute to a world better. We are happy to celebrate this meeting together and that the Argentine Olympic Committee opens its doors to us to remember its participation in the Olympic Games and to renew the commitment to ignite the Olympic spirit among those around us.”

Fernando Chaparro (Canoeing – Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992), Alejandro Bender (Judo – Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000), Elizabeth Copes (Judo – Athens 2004), Carlos Gats (Athletics – Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000), Alejandro Lecot (Swimming – Los Angeles 1984), Maria del Pilar Pereyra (Swimming – Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000), Juan Martin Pereyra (Swimming – Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012), Dolores Amaya (Rowing – Atlanta 1996), Lorena Corengia (Rowing – Atlanta 1996), Jorge Enriquez (Rowing – Atlanta 1996), Juliet Ramirez (Rowing – Atlanta 1996), Mariano Sosa Ribicich (Rowing – Atlanta 1996), Fernando Zapata (Rowing – Atlanta 1996), Pablo Meana (Volleyball – Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004) and Pablo Pereira (Volleyball – Atlanta 1996).

Mariano Sosa Ribicich He spoke on behalf of the Olympic athletes and sent a message to all the children and adolescents who won the Drawing and Literature Contest: “We are working at school, which is the first place where children begin to approach sports. “Everything is born in the schoolyard and we want to share this pride with all of you, who are the future of Argentina and of sport.”
