There are apparently tensions in the management team at Borussia Dortmund. Slaven Stanic, a close colleague of sports director Sebastian Kehl, is about to leave. He is said to have made a misstep in the Puma Lodge.

Slaven Stanic was active himself until 2004. The last club he played for was Waldhof Mannheim. The 49-year-old signed for Borussia Dortmund in the summer. But now, according to media reports, he is about to leave the club.

According to information from BILD, the assistant will be separated from sports director Sebastian Kehl before the Bundesliga club’s winter training camp in Marbella (January 3rd to 9th).

As SPORT BILD reported, at the beginning of October, after the final whistle of the Champions League home game against Milan (0-0), the sports coordinator expressed harsh criticism of coach Edin Terzic in a box owned by the supplier Puma in the Dortmund stadium and therefore expressed his displeasure the club management. An acquaintance of the BVB coach is said to have overheard the conversation and informed the management about it.

When asked, Borussia did not want to comment on the media reports. The former second division professional Stanic was hired in July on Kehl’s recommendation and was supposed to be an interface between those responsible and the team.

Watzke wants to find the “mole”.

The personnel is once again an indication that things are not quite right internally at BVB. SPORT BILD recently reported on two camps within the club: On one side there would be the chairman of the management Hans-Joachim Watzke, coach Terzic and advisor Matthias Sammer – on the other side there would be Kehl with his assistants Stanic and Daniel Beiderbeck (Head of Projects and Development).

The fact is: there were definitely different assessments of transfers last summer. Kehl had campaigned for the purchase of Edson Alvarez, but Terzic refused and wanted to continue to rely on Emre Can in defensive midfield. Alvarez instead moved from Ajax Amsterdam to West Ham United.

When managing director Watzke was recently asked by the “Ruhr Nachrichten” about an allegedly strained relationship between coach Terzic and sports director Kehl, he said that one also had to “allow for different opinions”, which they would sometimes “fight out in a discussion”.

Watzke added: “If I found that we were all just patting each other on the back in appreciation all day long, from morning to evening, I would certainly have the feeling that that would not be a performance-enhancing work culture.” Nevertheless, the BVB boss continued, there are internal incidents that he would like to avoid. “The only thing that bothered me is that a few internal things have become public in the last few weeks,” explained Watzke. This didn’t happen before, so we’re now getting to the bottom of the matter in order to identify the “mole”.
