Bremen defies Leipzig to take a point

RB Leipzig has dropped two points in the race for the Champions League places. In their annual final in the German Bundesliga, the Saxons did not get beyond a 1-1 (0-0) draw at Werder Bremen despite an increase in chances. Lois Openda (47′) had put the guests in the lead, Justin Njinmah (75′) managed to equalize for Bremen with a long-range shot.

After winning four competitive games in a row, the third-placed Leipzig missed out on points in the table, at least temporarily, with second-placed FC Bayern and can be overtaken by VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday.

Xaver Schlager was missing from Leipzig due to illness, and Christoph Baumgartner and Nicolas Seiwald came on as substitutes in the second half. For Bremen, captain Marco Friedl played through, Romano Schmid came onto the field after just over an hour.
