Bas Nijhuis only blew his first whistle after 48 minutes for a violation by RKC Waalwijk or Excelsior in the Eredivisie match on Saturday evening. The referee did not call for a foul in the entire first half. Only when Yassin Oukili scored did he have to blow his whistle.
That is a personal record for Nijhuis, whose previous record without whistling was almost 43 minutes. Shortly after the break, the referee had to intervene for the first time: in the end he only blew his whistle for nine fouls. Compared to the other matches on Saturday evening, this is very little: for example, at Fortuna Sittard – Vitesse (31) and Heracles Almelo – Sparta Rotterdam (20) the whistle was blown much more often.

Nijhuis himself responded via Instagram with a wink to his first half without whistling. “Tough first half,” he joked about the statistics that ESPN showed to TV viewers halfway through. It was also noticed on social media that the referee did not whistle at all in the first act. According to some X users, this was the perfect first half of Nijhuis. Others wondered what his next goal will be now that he has not whistled in half.
Bas Nijhuis has finally done it! The perfect half! He didn’t whistle once for a foul in the entire first half. After 47 minutes it was over and he had to intervene.
Bas has to look for new goals, don’t whistle for an entire match? ???? #RKCEXC

Personal record Bas Nijhuis: 47 minutes and 52 seconds without blowing the whistle except for the kick-off ‘previous record was something like 43 minutes at Groningen, unfortunately I had to blow the whistle because the advantage disappeared’ #rkcexc
