From January 5 to 19, the television media will drastically change its program schedule to devote four hours of air time to the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally. Between noon and 2 p.m., Messaoud Benterki will present the “big live”, in which viewers will be able to follow the arrival of the special stages. At 6:20 p.m., the “Dakar newspaper” will return between 5 and 10 minutes on the day’s stage. Finally, a “big summary” will be broadcast from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. A rebroadcast of the previous day’s race will also be scheduled every day, between 11 a.m. and noon, before the “big live” event.
Around ten people will be employed on site, with four special envoys responsible for collecting the first reactions to bivouacs and arrivals. For its part, France Télévisions, as announced in September, will be limited to a single meeting, in the daily program “Tout le sport”, at 8 p.m., on France 3. ASO’s wish was to renew the rights of the Dakar jointly with those of the Tour de France but the public group was not inclined to open the antennas to the car race.
