Vico Equense Takes a Stand Against Violence: Japanese Self-Defense Lesson Raises Awareness

News Editorial Staff 28 November 2023

In Vico Equense the day against violence against women was an opportunity to share the foundations of defense of Japanese art. With Sandro Piccirillo, Judo master and IJF coach, the Cloister of the Santissima Trinità e Paradiso became an experimentation ground for the townspeople who wanted to participate and share this experiment with the mayor of Vico Equense Peppe Aiello.

“The self-defense lesson represents a provocation and a denunciation against a system that is unable to protect and protect the victims – said Rossella Cavalieri, president of the equal opportunities commission of the city of Vico Equense – We live in a society that is now ‘accustomed to ‘ to phenomena of violence, so much so that we feel the need to learn to defend ourselves. We need more effective measures, services such as Anti-Violence Centres, protection for victims, education and training in schools”.

The participants were asked to propose needs and fears by writing them on anonymous cards collected in two boxes. The next stage will be dedicated to reading the cards to understand the needs of the local women.
