Erling Haaland Breaks Champions League Record, Guardiola Unimpressed With Comments

Manchester – Erling Haaland continues to have a terrible record. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also seems bored of commenting on his player’s fantastic achievements.

Most recently, Haaland has set another record. It happened when Manchester City beat RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Quoted from detikSport, Haaland scored one goal in City’s comeback win over Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium, Wednesday (29/11/2023) early morning WIB. After trailing by two goals from Lois Openda in the first half, Haaland started the hosts’ comeback in the second half.

The Norwegian striker broke through Leipzig’s goal in the 54th minute. Then, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez added another goal, ensuring City won 3-2 over Leipzig.

For Haaland, one goal resulted in a new record in the Champions League. The 23-year-old striker is the fastest player to collect 40 goals in the Champions League.

Haaland scored 40 goals in just 35 appearances. The former RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund player broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of 40 goals, which took 45 matches to achieve.

This is also Haaland’s second record in less than five days. Last weekend, Haaland also set the fastest record for scoring 50 goals in the Premier League.

“Again? I have to tell you guys again?” said Guardiola, when asked to comment on Haaland’s record after the Champions League match.

“I’ve said it a thousand times, I’m very impressed. They won today. Another record. Congratulations. He’s a fantastic player. I told you many times, we are very, very happy.”

“We really like him, not just about the goals he scores, but for many things,” Guardiola was quoted as saying ESPN.

The victory means Manchester City is still perfect in Group G, with 15 points from 5 matches. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig is in second place with 9 points. Both teams have confirmed qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League.
