Four athletes who stood out in their sporting discipline were honored by Varen elected officials last Monday evening during the Council meeting. The young people received a scholarship to encourage excellence. This is financial assistance offered to young people and organizations called upon to represent Varennes during major events, such as championships or other activities of a similar nature.
The tribute, chaired by the deputy mayor, Councilor Gaétan Marcil, was, in fact, publicly paid to two of the four winners: Mathilde Bérard, for her participation in the Canada Cup in volleyball, and to Gabriel Bureau, a member of the South Shore baseball team which participated in the Quebec Games.
The two other young people honored but absent during the ceremony are Éliane Charbonneau (performance in Cheerleading) and Maika Lavallée for her participation in the Canadian Baseball Championship.
