The Unimaginable Lie: Gil Ofarim’s Fabricated Anti-Semitism Allegations and Ruth Moschner’s Response

Gil Ofarim fabricated allegations of anti-Semitism against a hotel employee. A lie that is incomprehensible for presenter Ruth Moschner.

On Tuesday, the trial against Gil Ofarim came to an unexpected end. After the singer had claimed for two years that he had been turned away from a Leipzig hotel because of his Star of David necklace, he now confessed: his account was a lie.

Gil Ofarim made the allegations in an Instagram video at the time. Numerous celebrities then supported him – and are now even more horrified by his admission of guilt. Ruth Moschner also takes a stand on her social media channel.

For Ruth Moschner, Gil Ofarim’s lie is “unimaginable”

Ruth Moschner explains on Instagram that it is a matter of course for her to support those affected by discrimination. That’s why she also shared Gil Ofarim’s video at the time. “It was unimaginable for me that someone like Gil Ofarim would use accusations of anti-Semitism as revenge, an exercise of power or whatever, and it is still incomprehensible today,” the 47-year-old makes her point of view clear.

Ruth Moschner hopes that Gil Ofarim will now seek help: “To understand what he has done to others.” She wishes the hotel employee who was accused by Ofarim all the best. She also makes an appeal: “After Gil Ofarim’s confession, the whole thing doesn’t develop any momentum of its own when it comes to threatening Jewish people.”

Jewish descent was taboo for Ruth Moschner’s family

The topic is particularly emotional for Ruth Moschner: in 2021 she spoke publicly for the first time about her Jewish family history. “I was born in 1976. Jewish descent was an absolute taboo in my family. The majority of my ancestors fled to Israel during the Second World War and later settled in the USA,” the presenter described on Instagram at the time.

Ruth Moschner was baptized as a Christian. “Don’t tell anyone that you are of Jewish descent,” she was advised by her family. Her great aunt was afraid of attacks until her death. Therefore, Moschner will continue to believe those affected: “Because just because a prominent person has lied, that doesn’t mean that others will do the same.”
