The Panathlon Club Molfetta Celebrates 70th Anniversary of Polisportiva Libertas

The Panathlon Club Molfetta, adhering to the invitation of the Polisportiva Libertas Molfetta, took to the field actively participating in the organization of the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the historic Molfetta sports association.

An achievement of longevity which, after the awarding of the CONI Gold Star for Sporting Merit and the FIJLKAM Sporting Merit Medal of Honor, constitutes a source of pride for the sports club and a feather in the cap for Molfetta sport .

It is not the first time that the Panathlon Club collaborates or supports public bodies, schools and local sports clubs in the organization of events: to name a few, it is enough to recall in the recent past the incisive collaboration for the proclamation of Molfetta as the European City of Sport in 2016 and on the occasion of the starting stage of the Giro d’Italia cycling in 2017, as well as in 2023 the support activity at the II.SS. Amerigo Vespucci and the Italian Naval League Section of Molfetta first for the Trofeo del Sole and then for the Absolute Italian Championships for 10-oar boats.

The celebratory event of the Polisportiva Libertas, organized with the patronage of the Municipality of Molfetta, was divided into two separate events on Thursday 16 November.

The first event took place at the gym of the Polisportiva Libertas Molfetta in the PalaPoli with the inauguration of a photographic exhibition that retraced 70 years of sporting activity, in which the Mayor of Molfetta Tommaso Minervini, the Municipal Councilor for Activities took part Productive Rag. Carmela Minuto, the National President of FIJLKAM (Italian Judo Wrestling Karate Martial Arts Federation) Dr. Domenico Falcone, the Deputy Vice President of the Wrestling sector Dr. Gianni Morsiani, the Technical Director of the national wrestling teams Dr. Salvatore Avanzato, the Fijlkam Regional Committee Puglia represented by the President Saverio Patscot, by the Vice Presidents of the Sector Franco Quarto (Fighting), Sabino Silvestri (Karate), Nicola Rinaldi (Judo) and by members of the Sector Councils.

Immediately after the inauguration, in a gym full of athletes from the Polisportiva of all age groups and their families, Federal President Falcone awarded the diploma to the athletes who acquired the Black Belt during the last exam session of the Regional Committee FIJLKAM Karate sector of Puglia.

At the end all the participants moved to Palazzo Giovene in the Council Hall G: Carnicella of the Municipality of Molfetta, packed with seats in every order.

Once the proceedings began, the Councilor of the Puglia Region Dr. Saverio Tammacco brought the greetings of the President of the Region Dr. Michele Emiliano, who was unable to intervene.

Then we entered the theme of the evening dedicated to the Polisportiva Libertas Molfetta, a “70 YEAR LONG HISTORY”, in which the long journey dotted with great successes of the historic Molfetta club was retraced through memories, stories, anecdotes of the Honorary President of the Polisportiva Avv Oronzo Amato and those who in recent years have intertwined their path with that of the Polisportiva, including the Mayor Tommaso Minervini, the Sen. Avv. Antonio Azzollini former Mayor of Molfetta, the FIJLKAM National President Dr. Domenico Falcone and the Councilor Municipal Urban Planning Lawyer Sergio de Candia. Dr. Annalisa Altomare, former Mayor of Molfetta, was also present.

The lawyer introduced and moderated the interventions. Pasquale de Palma, President of the Panathlon Club Molfetta, who, before concluding the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Libertas, began the delivery ceremony of the GIOSUE’ POLI PRIZE.

The Award, established by the Club since 1977 and named after Captain Giosuè Poli, former National President of FIDAL, aims to remember the figure of the prestigious Molfetta sportsman, authentic master of sport and life, and is awarded annually to a company or to a manager or technician or athlete or referee who has particularly distinguished himself in the practice and/or organization of a sporting discipline in the territory.

For the year 2023, the athlete Ilario Samarelli was chosen, vice Absolute Italian Free Wrestling Champion – 57 kg category – in the years 2020, 2022 and 2023 and winner of national titles in the sector several times.

After reading the motivation by the Panathlon Master of Ceremonies Ins. Anna Vichi, President de Palma awarded the prestigious award to the athlete of the Polisportiva Libertas.

At the end, the ritual delivery of medals, pennants, gifts and the final thanks to all the participants in the celebration of the first 70 years of history of the Polisportiva Libertas Molfetta.
