Bochum – Düsseldorf: This is how you can watch the relegation games live – and the 3rd league

Fortuna Düsseldorf is one of the few second division teams that made it through relegation to the Bundesliga. Will it work again after 2012? VfL Bochum will be the touchstone. The trend is different in the second division relegation. So Jahn Regensburg can hope.

The final decisions about future league membership will be made in the two elimination duels between the Bundesliga sixteenth and the second division third and the second division sixteenth and the third division third.

From the Bundesliga, VfL Bochum has to play in the two games against Fortuna Düsseldorf, third in the second division. The first game will take place on May 23rd in Bochum’s Ruhr Stadium. The second leg in the Düsseldorf European Championship Stadium is scheduled for May 27th. The relegation for the 2nd league is contested by SV Wehen Wiesbaden and Jahn Regensburg. Second division team Wiesbaden initially has home advantage on May 24th and has to play in Regensburg on May 28th. Kick-off for all games is 8:30 p.m.

Who has prevailed more often?

In 25 decisive duels between the first and second division teams so far – ten of which took place between 1982 and 1991 – the second division teams have only been able to prevail six times, and only twice in the past twelve years: Union Berlin in 2019 (against VfB Stuttgart) and Fortuna in 2012 Düsseldorf (against Hertha BSC). The trend in the games between second and third division teams is completely different: in 15 duels so far, the lower-class teams from the 3rd division have prevailed eleven times.
