The Argentine men’s handball team won this Friday against local Chile 33-26 and qualified for the final of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, where they will face Brazil for gold and a ticket to Paris 2024.

The team led by coach Guillermo Milano dominated the match and the result midway through the first half, when they took a three-goal lead that the home team was never able to reduce.

The top scorers of the national team were the 37-year-old right back from Buenos Aires Federico Pizarro, with 8 goals, followed by the also full back Diego Simonet, 33, who accumulated 7 goals.

In addition, Argentina suffered the expulsion of left winger Ignacio Pizarro and center Gastón Mouriño, a situation that the locals did not take advantage of.

This way, “The Gladiators” will seek to repeat the gold obtained in Lima 2019, when they face the “Carioca” teamwho beat the United States 40-27 in the other semifinal, this Saturday from 7:30 p.m. at the Viña del Mar Sports Gym.

In other matches played this Friday for fifth place, Uruguay defeated the Dominican Republic by 33-29 and Cuba did the same with Mexico by 25-22.

Both winners will define that position this Saturday starting at 12:30, while the losers will seek seventh place in the initial duel, at 10.

For their part, Chile and the United States will play for bronze starting at 5 p.m.
