Alexander Zverev Secures Spot at ATP Finals in Turin

The calculation is over: Alexander Zverev will be playing at the ATP Finals from November 12th in Turin. The 26-year-old, who recently found himself in trouble again in qualifying for the season finale of the world’s eight best players, benefited from defeats by his direct competitors.

The Pole Hubert Hurkacz and the Australian Alex de Minaur failed in the quarter-finals in Paris and can no longer catch Zverev in the “Race to Turin”. Olympic champion Zverev made it into the annual final in seventh place, Boris Becker’s protégé Holger Rune (Denmark), who also missed the semi-finals in Paris, in eighth place.

For the top German player, qualifying in his comeback season is a remarkable success. Zverev, who won the finals in 2018 and 2021, registered for the Sofia Open at short notice after his round of 16 exit in Paris. Since he no longer needs any points, he canceled his participation in the tournament.

The field at the ATP Finals will be led by world number one Novak Djokovic (Serbia). Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz (Spain), Daniil Medvedev and Andrej Rublew (both Russia), Jannik Sinner (Italy) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) are also there.

In Turin there is record prize money of 15 million US dollars at stake. If the champion goes undefeated throughout the event, he will receive more than $4.8 million, the largest prize money for a single player in tennis history.
