Tennis: Alexander Zverev eliminated from the ATP finals

Tennis professional Alexander Zverev no longer has a chance of reaching the semi-finals at the ATP finals. Because the Spanish Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz won 6:4, 6:4 against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who had already qualified for the semi-finals, Zverev’s last group game against the Russian Andrei Rublyov is irrelevant.

Instead, Alcaraz secured their place in the semi-finals. From the other group, the Italian Jannik Sinner and the Serbian world number one Novak Đoković qualified for the semi-finals, which will take place this Saturday.

Double appearance with Angelique Kerber planned in Australia

Zverev had already struggled with his situation before the last group games. “I’m now in an unfavorable situation. You never want that, you always want to have everything in your own hands,” the German said, referring to the dependence on Medvedev. However, Zverev did not want to blame the Russian for the initial situation and the elimination. “If I don’t make it, I can’t blame anyone. Then it was only my own fault.”

Zverev will now go on vacation after the game against Rublev. The new tennis season begins for the 26-year-old around the turn of the year at the United Cup in Australia. Zverev will compete there together with Angelique Kerber, who wants to make her comeback after her maternity break in Sydney.
