Bad luck for Swiss women in BJKC qualification
The Swiss tennis women will meet Poland at home in the qualifying round of the Billie Jean King Cup on April 12th and 13th. The Swiss are unlucky: If world number 1 Iga Swiatek plays, Poland would be the favorite – especially since Belinda Bencic will not be available as the expectant mother. The game will most likely be played in Biel. The winner will contest the final tournament in autumn 2024, the loser will have to fight to stay in the world group. For the first time in three years, Switzerland has to qualify for the final tournament again.
Switzerland in the Davis Cup in the Netherlands
For men, the Davis Cup team will compete in qualifying for the final tournament in the Netherlands at the beginning of February. With top 50 players Tallon Griekspoor and Botic van de Zandschulp, the “Oranje” are easily ranked stronger than the Swiss led by veteran Stan Wawrinka. Switzerland has won 6 of 9 duels so far. The winners of the 12 duels in February qualify for the so-called finals with 4 groups of four at 4 different locations in September.
