Special Olympics Belgium Athletes Achieve Remarkable Success at 2023 World Games

This year from June 17 to June 25, 88 athletes from Special Olympics Belgium showed their best side during the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. They brought back no fewer than 126 medals. Several athletes from Ninove also won medals of honor.

Rutger Vandercammen and dad Bart from Meerbeke won gold in the badminton doubles, Rutger won silver in the badminton singles. Sylke Devogeleer won gold in football.

Ilse Malfroot: “On November 25, the sports laureates were honored during Sportkrasjel 2023. During that event, athletes and G-athletes (athletes with disabilities) who play at a Ninove club or live in Ninove are celebrated. However, Rutger and Sylke were not honored by the mayor and aldermen, nor by the sports council during sports krasjel. I will ask Alderman Torrekens about this at the next municipal council and ask when both athletes will be honored for their fantastic performances.”

Malfroot will also ask to write to clubs from outside Ninove so that athletes who live in Ninove, but are not affiliated with a Ninove sports club, are not left out of future awards.
