Novak Djokovic Seeks Revenge Against Holger Rune in Paris-Bercy Masters 1000

In a vibrant duel, the legend Novak Djokovic took revenge against the Dane Holger Rune, who had defeated him in the last final of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000, beating him 7-5, 6-7 (3/7) and 6-4 this Friday to reach the semifinals of this edition. The Serbian will now play on Saturday for a place in the final with the winner of the last quarterfinal duel, between the Australian Alex de Miñaur (13th) and the Russian Andrey Rublev (5th).

In a generational clash, the gala match of the day at the Accor Arena ended at two hours and 54 minutes, pure spectacle for Friday night in the French capital. The 20-year-old Dane appeared undefeated in the tournament, after surfing his first participation last year, consecutively eliminating five players from the Top-10, with the icing on the cake of coming back from a set down against Djokovic in the final.

For his part, at 36 years old, the Serbian winner of three Grand Slams this year -Australia, Roland Garros and US Open-, showed signs of his high level and was able to carry out a difficult duel. “The game was similar to last year, with ups and downs. I usually play well in tie-breaks, but today was one of the worst of my career. I stayed calm and in the end it worked out for me,” he said at the end of the match.

In addition, he starred in a separate show. First by challenging the public who booed him again, just like in the previous round. This time it was because he asked for a bathroom break and then he gave them a special look that he repeated when he won the match. But, when he won the victory, the spectators gave up and applauded him.

On the other hand, he also had a disagreement with the umpire in the second set, after Rune demanded Hawkeye’s intervention due to a bad ball from Djokovic. The Serbian got angry with the judge by arguing that his opponent had made the request after returning the ball long, so the technology should not have intervened.

On the other side of the draw, the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (17th) and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (6th) will face each other in the semi-finals.

Tsitsipas, who is also recovering his best feelings, had sealed his pass to the Masters on Thursday. He advanced to the semifinals by successfully eliminating Kharen Khachanov (15th), 6-3 and 6-4. “My game has reached an interesting level in recent days,” he said from the court, highlighting that he shows a varied offensive arsenal, especially increasing his climbs to the net.
