New York Giants to Have Extra Day Off During Bye Week After NFL Keeps Week 14 Game on Monday Night Football

The New York Giants will have an extra day off during their bye week because the NFL has opted against flexing their Week 14 game out of Monday Night Football.

Despite some rumblings last week that the league was considering swapping the Giants and Jets gamesthey have decided to keep Big Blue in primetime against the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium.

For the Giants, it will be their fifth of six primetime games this season. They have yet to win any of those games thus far, going 0-4 with losses to the Dallas Cowboys (Week 1), San Francisco 49ers (Week 3), Seattle Seahawks (Week 4), and Buffalo Bills (Week 6).

In those four losses, the Giants were out-scored, 108-24.

It’s unlikely the Giants would have remained in the Week 14 primetime slot if it had not been for rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito, who has guided New York to back-to-back wins, keeping their very slim NFC Playoff hopes alive.

A game against the Packers now looms very large in the standings, especially if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. Carolina Panthers), Los Angeles Rams (vs. Cleveland Browns), New Orleans Saints (vs. Detroit Lions), Minnesota Vikings (at Las Vegas Raiders) and Green Bay (vs. Kansas City Chiefs) all lose in Week 13.

For DeVito, assuming he remains under center with Tyrod Taylor expected to return from injured reserve (IR), it will be his first career primetime start.

The Giants’ sixth and final “primetime” game with come on Christmas Day against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
