Motta, everything Ancelotti says is worth listening to – Football

“We are doing extraordinary things but it is only November. Head to Fiorentina, aware that we have played and will play with teams better equipped than ours and to continue to compete we must always be at 100% and not change our characteristics.” Two days before the Apennine derby, this is how Bologna coach Thiago Motta expresses himself, who in his speech also returns to the words of a more experienced colleague, Carlo Ancelotti.

Motta’s reference is an Ancelottian concept relating to the mistake that many young coaches make of giving too much information to the players, who must be free during the possession phase: “Everything he says needs to be listened to and thought about. I listened and read what who said: I don’t want to say that he must always be right about everything, but the results speak for him and say yes and many things he says are true and functional – said Motta – I agree on the fact that the players must have freedom to create and express themselves and I try to leave players free to express themselves to the fullest, within a context, because in chaos you cannot express yourself to the fullest. From the outside we can only help the kids with information and by explaining the reason for something or another, but they, those who go on the pitch, are the protagonists.”
