Javier García Secures First Ticket to Paris 2024 Paralympic Games for Spanish Rower

Sports editorial, Apr 27 (EFE).- Javier García from Alicante achieved victory this Saturday in the European Rowing Qualifying Regatta held in Szeged (Hungary) and secured the first ticket to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games for a Spanish rower .

The athlete from the Torrevieja Rowing Club, who competed in the PR1 M1x men’s individual event reserved for participants without mobility in their legs or trunk, demonstrated his superiority by completing the 2,000 meters with a time of 10:07.00. Second place went to the Hungarian Zsolt Peto (11:29.08) and third to the Czech Tomas Nevecny (12:10.90).

Javier García competed knowing that only victory would be enough to guarantee participation in his first Paralympic event, since he only had one place up for grabs.

With his classification, Javier García becomes the first Spanish rower to qualify for the Paris 2024 Games. The other members of the national team, who have not taken part in this competition, will have the last opportunity in the World Qualifying Regatta that It will be held in Lucerne (Switzerland) between May 19 and 21.

With four months to go until the Paris Paralympic Games, the Spanish team has already obtained 89 qualifying places in eleven sports: swimming (31), wheelchair basketball (24), athletics (10), table tennis (10 ), canoeing (6), boccia (2), taekwondo (2), cycling (1), rowing (1), shooting (1) and archery (1).

Spain still has options to participate in 17 of the 22 sports that are part of the competition program and it is expected that the quota will expand significantly in the coming months in these and other modalities, such as triathlon, judo, wheelchair tennis, badminton , wheelchair fencing and weightlifting.
