Monaco dominates Blois in Betclic Elite and consolidates its leadership position

After a difficult week of European games, capped by two losses against Anadolu Efes (89-82) and Real Madrid (91-73), Monaco had to get back on the path to victory. It’s done. Led by an excellent Matthew Strazel coming off the bench (17 points, 4 assists), the Roca Team won in style this Sunday against Blois (99-81), for the 12th day of Betclic Elite.

Unlike their failed score against the Madrilenians on Thursday evening, symbolized by a cruel lack of efficiency against the circle (37%), the French champions were this time able to rely on remarkable skill (66% shooting including 57% at three points) to build their lead in the first period (51-40).

A well-oiled Monegasque collective

But on the other hand, the Blésois also had arguments. Even though they were behind almost the entire game, the visitors, guided by Tobin Carberry (16 points, 4 assists) and Milan Barbitch (13 points, 5 assists), regularly posed problems for their hosts, particularly in the racket, where they were frequently able to seize their second chances (8 offensive rebounds).

If Mickaël Hay’s men gradually picked up the score thanks to a great start to the third quarter (51-48), Monaco ended up accelerating. Despite a discreet Mike James offensively (5 points, 1/5 shooting), Yakuba Ouattara’s partners (13 units, 3/4 three-pointers) were able to count on a well-oiled collective (30 assists) to achieve an eleventh success in twelve days of the Championship.

With this controlled victory, the Monegasques regain a little lead over their runner-up, Paris, surprised on the floor of Roanne (83-76) on Saturday. For its part, Blois still remains stuck in 10th place in the ranking after this third setback in a row.
