Marco Mazzieri he will be the manager of the All Euro Team that will face Samurai Japan at the second edition of the “Global Baseball Games“, the double challenge scheduled for 6 and 7 March 2024 at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, “home of the Orix Buffaloes”. This was announced by the World Baseball and Softball Confederation.

Mazzieri, who will celebrate 61 years of age on December 20th, was manager of Italy from 2007 to 2017, with whom he won two European titles in 2010 and 2012 plus a bronze medal in the Taiwan Intercontinental Cup in 2010, he played three World Baseball Classic (2009, 2013 and 2017), after having been a great protagonist of Grosseto as a player and coach. He currently chairs the WBSC Coach Commission. At the 2015 Global Baseball Games, he was the bench coach of Team Europe led by Steve Janssen.

At the same time, Nippon Professional Baseball announced that the former NPB star and manager of the Japanese Under-12 national team, the 48-year-old Hirokazu Ibata, will lead Samurai Japan. Ibata, on Atsunori Inaba’s coaching staff at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, got the job last month and will be the skipper of the Japanese national team until the 2024 Premier12.

The first edition of the Global Baseball Games took place in March 2015 and was hosted at the Tokyo Dome with one victory for each side. In game one, on March 10th, Samurai Japan overcame Team Europe by winning 4-3, while on March 11th in game two the team of Janssen and Mazzieri won 6-2.
