Many injured in riots at Frankfurt’s Waldstadion

After the riots at the Eintracht game against VfB Stuttgart with more than 100 injuries, we are now looking into how the serious clashes between fans and the police came about. Both sides make serious accusations against each other. Eintracht supporters speak of “disproportionate police violence” and the “most massive police operation ever in the Waldstadion.” The police, for their part, presented a new assessment late on Sunday evening and pointed to video footage that supports their version of what happened.

The police union is now demanding consequences. “Anyone who compromises legal interests such as physical integrity, life and health of others by exercising brutal violence in football stadiums must be consistently and permanently excluded from our football arenas,” explained GdP boss Jens Mohrherr. He also calls for penalties to be implemented consistently. If so-called violent sport perpetrators are identified, there must be noticeable consequences. “Stadium bans and their consistent enforcement must not become a taboo topic,” it said.

There is talk of up to 400 people, some of whom were masked, who took part in the riots. This was shown by an initial evaluation of the video recordings. As the police announced on Sunday evening, investigators from the specially convened “Soko 2511” have started work and are in the process of putting the events in order. In doing so, they also indirectly address the accusations made against them by the fan scene.

Contrary to what supporters of the ultra scene claim, “at the time of the altercation there were neither uniformed nor civilian police officers in fan block 40 or in the area behind it.” They were only sent to Block 40 after they received reports that there had been physical confrontations between masked people in this area. At the same time, it was also noticed in the stadium “that there was migration from the blocks of the northwest curve to the rear area”.

Eintracht employees beaten

According to the police, the previous evaluations show that Eintracht Frankfurt supporters “physically attacked a plain-clothed employee of the organizer by hitting him in the face in Block 40.” Among other things, he was used to control the quality of the security service and at that time he “held a person who had gained access to the block without showing a ticket”.

According to the police, the information initially published by the Frankfurt police via the short message service

After the first police forces arrived behind Block 40, they were immediately attacked. “According to an initial analysis of the video sequences of the event, at least 300 to 400 people from Frankfurt’s risk fan scene – often masked – took part in the attacks in the area behind the northwest curve,” the police said on Sunday evening.
