A 29-year-old man in Quezon City was arrested after hitting his partner’s nine-year-old son with a badminton racket on Sunday night.

According to James Agustin’s report in Unang Balita this Monday, the child suffered head and back injuries.

According to Police Major Jefry Gamboa, deputy commander of the Holy Spirit Police Station, the child was in the computer shop when the drunken stepfather arrived.

“When he got there, he talked to the boy’s friend, who he called his son-in-law, then he saw a badminton racket. Due to drunkenness, he beat the child to send him home for an unknown reason,” he said.

The residents allegedly weaned the stepfather. They also started the child at the hospital where his mother handed him over.

In the investigation, it turns out that this is not the first time the suspect touched the child.

“Whenever this stepfather gets drunk, he always hurts the child so we are now studying what else we can file a complaint against the suspect,” said Gamboa.

The suspect admitted that he hurt the child but said it was the first time.

“I was beaten only once. I was drinking, sir. I admit my fault, I apologize to the child and also to my wife,” said the suspect.

The suspect will face a complaint for violation of Republic Act 7610 or Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
