Lyle Foster (Burnley), plagued by mental health issues, left to rest

Striker Lyle Foster will be left on indefinite leave due to his mental health problems, his club Burnley announced on Thursday. “Lyle recently let us know that he continues to live with issues relating to his mental wellbeing and has sought help,” the club said on X of the South African.

“He is currently being cared for by specialists who are providing him with the support and care he needs to return to full health.”

Author of 3 goals in 7 appearances this season with the penultimate in the Premier League, the South African international (13 caps), short-lived Monegasque in 2019-2020 (2 matches), is not an isolated case according to the PFA (Professional Footballer’s Association): more than 75% of footballers have encountered a mental health problem during their career.

“We ask for your understanding and respect for Lyle’s privacy in this matter and we will not make any further comment until further notice,” added the club from the north of England, still on X.
