Former Cal Players Shine in Week 9 of the 2023 NFL Regular Season

Keenan Allen became the 54th player in NFL history to surpass 10,000 career rushing yards during the Los Angeles Chargers’ 27-6 Week 9 road win over the New York Jets at MetLiife Stadium to lead performances by former Cal players in Week 9 of the 2023 NFL regular season. Allen continued his strong campaign in the contest and now has 62 receptions and 720 receiving yards to rank tied for sixth and seventh in the NFL at the halfway mark of the 2023 regular season.

Cal has a total of 24 former players currently affiliated with NFL teams including 11 on active rosters, eight on coaching staffs, four on injured reserve lists and one on a practice squad.

Keenan Allen – WR (Los Angeles Chargers, 4-4, No. 10 AFC Playoff Seed, 2nd AFC West)

– Became the 54th player in NFL history to surpass 10,000 career receiving yards (also one of six active players) in the fourth quarter of a 27-6 Week 9 road win over the New York Jets and finished with a game-high eight receptions for a team-high 77 yards
– Tied for sixth in the NFL with 62 receptions and seventh with 720 receiving yards through Week 9

Bryan Anger – P (Dallas, 5-3, No. 6 NFC Playoff Seed, 2nd NFC East)

– Punted twice for 82 yards (41.0 avg, 39.0 net) with one punt inside the 20 and was also the holder for two extra points and one field goal in a 28-23 Week 9 loss at Philadelphia
– Third in the NFL in net punting average (44.6), while he is sixth with a career-high 50.1 yards per punt average

Chris Brooks – RB (Miami, 6-3, No. 4 AFC Playoff Seed, 1st AFC East) … Injured Reserve

– Rushed 15 times for 94 yards with all of his carries coming in a 70-20 Week 3 win vs. Denver (9-66) and a 42-21 Week 6 victory over Carolina (6-28)

Camryn Bynum – S (Minnesota, 5-4, No. 7 NFC Playoff Seed, 2nd NFC North)

– Had four tackles and one pass defense in a 31-28 Week 9 win at Atlanta that extended the Vikings’ win streak to four in a row
– Tied for eighth in the NFL with 80 tackles, while adding two interceptions, seven pass defenses, one forced fumble, 0.5 sacks, 2 TFL and 1 QBH
– Named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week when he registered the first two-interception game of his career, was credited for a tackle on another San Francisco turnover among a team-high nine tackles in a 22-17 Week 7 home win over a 5-1 49ers’ squad

Austin Clark – Defensive Line Coach (Miami, 6-3, No. 4 AFC Playoff Seed, 1st AFC East)
