Flandrien Completes Stages Leading to Fight for Gold Medal in Potsdam

Engaged this weekend in Potsdam, the Flandrien completed all the stages leading to the fight for the gold medal, which he competed against the Georgian Dvalashvili (22 years old/n°55).

Seeded n°2 in the competition, the compatriot of Grigalashvili, great rival of Matthias Casse, won with an unstoppable move for Jarne Duyck, very disappointed when he left the tatami.

Previously, the Flandrien had eliminated the Czech Pochop, the Ukrainian Leontiev, the Austrian Fasching and the Finn Ihanamaki to win at least the silver medal.

And it will be the only one in the Belgian delegation after Zelemkhan Batchaev (-73 kg), Jente Verstraeten (-48 kg) and Alessia Corrao (-63 kg) fell on Friday in the first round of the repechage while Olivier Naert ( -60 kg) and Mouhammad Gazaloev (-73 kg) lost straight away. Like Gabrielle Bouvier (+78 kg), this Saturday.

Coming back to Jarne Duyck, he confirms all the good things that have been thought of him since his victory in mid-September, in Sarajevo, followed by a fifth place at the beginning of October, in Prague.

Two performances which allowed him to be selected for the Euro seniors, in Montpellier, where he lost in the second round, against the Irishman Gleeson, while he was leading in the score.

Youthful mistake? In any case, Jarne Duyck seems to have learned his lesson! Despite his final defeat…
