Five Macalester College Football Players Receive MIAC Year-End Honors

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Five members of the Macalester College football team were honored by the MIAC as the conference announced its year-end awards for football today. Junior defensive back Cameron Latvis (West St. Paul, Minn./Two Rivers) was named to the All-MIAC team, while senior quarterback Michael Nadeau (Garden Grove, Calif./La Quinta), senior running back Logan Pampel (Johnson Creek, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran School), senior receiver Michael Poker (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) and senior linebacker Noah Bresson (Homosassa, Fla./Crystal River) received All-MIAC honorable mention.

Latvis makes his first appearance on the All-MIAC team after receiving All-MIAC honorable mention a year ago. He was second on the team with 53 tackles despite missing the final two games of the season due to injury. The Scots’ starting safety registered eight tackles in four of his eight games played, including eight solo tackles in the season-opening win over Minnesota Morris on Sept. 2. Also a key player on special teams, Latvis blocked two kicks this year. In 27 games, he has 145 tackles, three interceptions and 12 pass breakups in his career.

Nadeau, who was All-MIAC the previous two seasons, led the MIAC and ranked second in Division III in passing yards per game (346.1) while ranking fifth nationally in total passing yards (3,115) despite missing a game this season. He completed 252 passes for 3,115 yards and 28 touchdowns while registering three games with 400 or more passing yards. In a 56-27 victory at Martin Luther on Sept. 9, Nadeau threw for 542 yards and a school-record eight touchdowns to earn MIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. He completed his career with 9,936 passing yards, 84 touchdown passes, 847 completions and 1,402 attempts, all school records.

Pampel was a dual threat for Macalester’s offense this season, tying for the team lead with 11 touchdowns. He gained 414 yards on the ground and scored four touchdowns rushing while catching 50 passes for 477 yards and seven touchdowns. In the season finale against St. Scholastica on Nov. 11, Pampel had 10 receptions for 106 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 25 yards and a score in a 40-20 victory. In 30 career games, he produced 1,097 yards rushing and 1,002 yards receiving on 124 catches while scoring nine touchdowns on the ground and 13 touchdowns receiving.

Poker also scored 11 touchdowns, all receiving, and caught a team-leading 72 passes for 835 yards this season. He gained a career-high 170 yards on eight catches against Bethel on Oct. 7, and caught a career-best 12 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns against Augsburg on Nov. 4. After being limited to a total of 10 games in the previous two seasons, Poker played in every game this season and recorded at least seven receptions in seven games. He finished his career with 109 catches for 1,208 yards and 15 touchdowns in 20 games.

This is the third year on the All-MIAC honorable mention list for Bresson, who led the Scots in tackling for the second year in a row with 54 solo and 17 assists for 71 total tackles. He also had 4.0 tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks, and two pass breakups. Against St. Scholastica on Sept. 30, Bresson recovered a blocked kick in the end zone for his first career touchdown. He registered a season-best 12 tackles at Gustavus on Oct. 14 and had 10 tackles in the win at Martin Luther on Sept. 9. In 30 career games, Bresson has 188 total tackles and 11.0 tackles for loss.
