FC Twente Women Clinch 0-1 Victory Against Rival Ajax, Maintain Lead

FC Twente Women won 0-1 against rival Ajax yesterday. The Tukkers remain in the lead and midfielder Danique van Ginkel is of course very happy with that.

Van Ginkel appears relieved to the cameras ESPN. “This one is very nice, you don’t want to know how happy we are. You know it is a very important match. It is extra nice that you win this one. These are very important points.”

Last season things went wrong against Ajax and the team from Amsterdam walked away with the title. FC Twente was not influenced by this. “Of course we know that. The entire training week was good, the atmosphere was good, so I don’t think we thought back much about last year. That doesn’t make you happy, of course. We went here with a very good feeling and We had prepared a good plan,” says Van Ginkel.

Ajax had outclassed the French PSG in the Champions League, but there was little evidence of that now. “We would also have liked to be there on that stage,” says Van Ginkel. “Unfortunately, we did not achieve that this season. They played a very good match, but ultimately it is also about the competition. It does not matter what they do in the Champions League.”
