Italy overwhelmed Turkey with a peremptory 10-4 after seven ends and thus slipped the seventh consecutive victory at the 2023 European Curling Championshipsconfirming his own unbeatability on the ice of Aberdeen (Great Britain). Our national team started with all the odds and had no problems against the Anatolian team, tamed far and wide without any particular worries from the top of a decidedly superior technical caliber.

The tricolor quartet no longer knows limits in this continental event, at which it presented itself thanks to two triumphs in the Slamsand it has so mathematically earned first place in the group stage: Scotland, Switzerland and Sweden are in hot pursuit, but they can no longer overtake the Azzurri (who have already beaten their three rivals in head-to-head matches) with only two days left until the end of the round robin. Joel Retornaz (skip), Amos Mosaner (third), Sebastiano Arman (second) e Mattia Giovanella (vice-skip) outclassed Ugurcan Karagoz and his teammates right from the start of the match.

Upon returning to the ice, Retornaz and his teammates, capable of winning the bronze medal in the last two editions of the European Championships and at the 2022 World Championships, were subjected to a comeback attempt by Turkey, who scored a couple of points to close the gap to 8-4.

Italy did not lose their composure and re-established the distance in the seventh endscoring two points that make it 10-4 and thus force the Karagoz quartet to concede the success. Italy will face Finland at 8.00 pm today, while tomorrow (Thursday 23 November, 3.00 pm) the round robin against Germany will conclude.
