Said Hamulic thought he scored a wonderful goal in the match between Ajax and Vitesse. The Vitesse attacker beautifully placed the ball over goalkeeper Diant Ramaj and seemed to make it 1-1. However, the goal was disallowed for offside and that raised some eyebrows.
In the eighth minute, with a 1-0 deficit, Hamulic appeared behind the Ajax defense after a long ball from the back. He took the ball and then scored beautifully. The flag went up and so Dennis Higler disallowed the goal. Video referee Marc Nagtegaal looked at the images and ruled after about two and a half minutes that there was indeed offside.

An offside line then appeared on ESPN’s screen, which would show that Hamulic was offside. Many fans were not convinced by it. Commentator Martijn van Zijtveld explained: “There seem to be two lines. They are so close to each other that it is not actually visible. In short: the VAR could not provide a definitive answer as to whether it was offside. That leaves the decision of the VAR. If the linesman had not raised his flag, the goal would have ultimately counted.”
