Pochettino ‘angry and disappointed’ after Newcastle defeat

The Chelsea coach returned, with bitterness, to his team’s heavy defeat this Saturday at Newcastle (4-1).

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said on Saturday:angry and disappointed» after the 4-1 league defeat at Newcastle, where he judged his team “too soft» in commitment.

«We, Chelsea, have to come here to show that it will be difficult for them to play, win the match and beat us“, said the Argentinian, forced to watch the match in the stands due to a suspension. Yet, he commented, “It was really very easy to score goals, we were too soft in each duel. We didn’t show that we were playing for something important».

«It makes me angry and disappointed. We talk about the fact that we are a young team and we have to learn, but this kind of match makes me very, very, very, very, very angry because we have to show personality and character“, he insisted.

Pochettino conceded his heaviest defeat on Saturday since his arrival on the bench of Chelsea, a rejuvenated and rebuilding team which had left its mark before the international break, beating Tottenham 4-1 and holding off 4-4 at Manchester City . “We thought we were ready for the challenge today, but we didn’t meet the requirements of the competition“, declared the former coach of Paris Saint-Germain in particular. “Even though Newcastle weren’t great, it was an easy win (for them)“, he concluded. Chelsea, tenth, host Brighton next weekend for the 14th day of the Premier League.
