Just a few hours after meeting the new Major League champion, the movement market began to rise and for the second consecutive day, the Chicago Cubs have had a leading role in it, now with the announcement about the departure of Marcus Stroman.

According to sources close to MLB.com, the 32-year-old pitcher made the decision to reject the club’s option for the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) Season, so he will try his luck in free agency.

Stroman signed a three-year, $71 million contract prior to the 2022 campaign, for which he would receive $21 million next year; However, he chose to become a free agent and be an option to consider for other teams that need to reinforce his pitching staff.

“It was a tale of two seasons,” Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said of Stroman in his season-ending news conference.

During the 2023 Season, the right-hander had a total of 27 appearances in which he left a 10-9 record with a 3.95 ERA, 136.2 innings pitched, 119 strikeouts and 1.26 WHIP.

It was in the second half of the campaign when problems came for Stroman with discomfort in his right hip that led to a fracture in the cartilage of his right rib.
