Blue Jays Shut Down Shohei Ohtani in Victory Over Dodgers

After getting a taste of Shohei Ohtani’s medicine, the Toronto Blue Jays finally found a way to stop him from doing damage in a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.

The team from the Queen City finally got its revenge after the Japanese hit a home run and a profitable single during the first two duels of the series. The Jays had not yet been able to give back the pitcher and designated hitter, who preferred the Dodgers during the last off-season.

Starting pitcher Kevin Gausman (1-3) gave everything to sign his first victory of the campaign. The right-hander remained at his post for seven innings, allowing five hits, including a solo homer to Freddie Freeman.

Gausman and his relievers gave Ohtani nothing in four at-bat appearances during this meeting. Canadian Jordan Romano closed the books with his fourth save.

The Blue Jays got all their runs in the second inning. Daulton Varsho and Isiah Kiner-Falefa produced one each, then Alejandro Kirk put the exclamation point with a long ball.

The only Canadian team in major baseball will remain at the Rogers Center for its next series of three games which will begin on Monday. Facing the Kansas City Royals, they will try to avenge their three consecutive defeats suffered last week.

Three in a row for Toro

In Baltimore, Abraham Toro was used for only about one inning by the Oakland Athletics, but he had a hit in the third straight game.

In a 7-6 victory over the Orioles, the Quebecer came on as a replacement hitter in the seventh inning. He hit a single before the inning ended. He then remained on second cushion for the eighth.

Toro had a good month in April which allowed him to increase his batting average to .229.
