After 5 match days there is more clarity about who can dream of more in the Champions League. Manchester City is the group winner, but it needed a strong comeback against RB Leipzig. Loïs Openda scored twice, but City won 3-2. There is also good news for Lazio, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona. In Paris they breathe a sigh of relief again.

In the early evening, Lazio Roma did what it had to do: win against red lantern Celtic. After a difficult match, in which Celtic did not easily give up, substitute and goal machine Ciro Immobile won the home team over the line. Lazio is doing a great job and has qualified for the next round together with Atlético Madrid. Celtic are completely exhausted.

In the other match in group E, Atlético also did what it had traveled to Rotterdam for: won and qualified. Atlético and Axel Witsel received help twice from Feyenoord, who scored two own goals. Hermoso scored the goal of the evening. Feyenoord is certain of the Europa League thanks to the loss to Celtic. A reborn home team put things in order in the second half with Jeremy Doku between the lines. Thanks to the victory, City is certain of the group win. Leipzig, already qualified for the 1/8th finals, has to settle for 2nd place.

The stakes of the match between Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade were very clear in advance: a place in the Europa League and European wintering. Young Boys understood that message best and provided a reassuring lead in the first half. Red Star Belgrade is eliminated.

group H

After Shakhtar’s victory against Antwerp, both Barcelona and Porto knew what to do. In an exciting match with beautiful goals, the home team ultimately came out on top. An important victory for Barca, which has thus assured itself of wintering in the Champions League. Porto can fight in a direct duel with Shakhtar to see who can go with Barca to the next round.

The chance of Antwerp wintering in Europe was almost nil in advance, but Van Bommel’s men still went looking for the first points in this campaign with a small core. Alderweireld came close to the equalizer in the final minute, but the experience of the Ukrainians was the deciding factor. Antwerp is last without points, Shakhtar is fighting with Porto for a place in the next round.

Booking for Milan? Adeyemi can hit hard from the edge of the box. Maignan is still there, but the ball bounces into the goal. Dortmund is doing well and is provisionally qualified for the next round.

PSG – Newcastle: 0-1

Once again it is Mbappe who can send Barcola towards goal in a beautiful way, this time with his heel. The youngster makes the wrong decision and chooses to finish in the short corner. The ball disappears along the wrong side of the post. Another great chance for the home team.
